I've encountered a strange problem and I hope you can help me.
I designed my own cross stitch designs and created PDFs using Cute PDF software to do so. When I printed them, I noted an area of solid color, for example, with two different kinds of symbols when only one type of color was used. So I changed to a different software for creating PDFs called PDF-XChange and even paid for the program. The most basic thing that happened under Cute and PDF-XChange was that (I THINK was happening) was that the conversion to PDF and the PDF to print wasn't communicating, or something, because symbols were not being printed correctly. Everything looks great in PCStitch form but when printed, somehow the symbols get garbled. I can't for the life of me remember how to put a photo into a format like this. I'm sorry. But say the symbol is a single dot. It will randomly show up as two dots in the square. Or a " symbol will show up as an * symbol. Sometimes the PDF is perfect but prints incorrect symbols. And it happens on small patterns but is much worse on more complicated patterns. It's a nightmare. And made worse because I am working on a book and we are on a publishing deadline. I NEED to have perfection. Do you have any idea what the problem may be?

I have never seen any change in a pattern when converted to a PDF using a "virtual printer". I use Foxit but Adobe also had such a feature. You just PRINT and select the virtual printer as the destination and it creates a PDF file. It always looks the same as what you see when you do a Print Preview.

I just tested with Foxit's Print to PDF with a design by Ellen Mauer-Stroh, "Parrot Sampler" that is 8 pages of pattern and uses 77 colors.
It print previewed and printed to create a PDF with a hitch! It stills works for PCStitch 11 from what I can tell.

How are you creating the PDFs?
Are you using the "virtual printer" method?

I have no solution. All I know if I've never seen FoxIt do differently from any format. My printers are newer than my operating system and the print drivers only work with one or two apps -- including FoxIt so the way I print is is print to FoxIt and then actually print FROM FoxIt.
You might check with Mark but I suspect it's something being done within the PDF clone that is causing the issue. They may not recognize the graphics right.

To contact Mark, just go to his profile and use the link there to send him an email. Note, you need 5 posts but you have them. 
As for adding images, you can't. All you can do is post them to a site for pictures and then provide a link to the image page from here.
