I got this error message when replacing a colour in entire pattern with another one, and it seems to repeat itself every time when doing that.
Though it only happens when one replaces a colour which already exists in the palette, so it is actually a PEBCAK error, but colour already exists in palette might be more understandable - at least for technically limited persons like myself.

Help!
I am getting that same error now even the colour I'm using to replace another one is surely not in the list! (It happens occasionally and I haven't been able to notice anything which all those incidents share - except changing the colour, but as said it doesn't happen always.)

Outi,
I've tried replacing colors in their entirety in a design both to an existing color and to a new color. I get no errors. It works for me.
However, there is a problem. If you can, try this:
Change a color in a section to another color.
I get no error but no matter what color I do, it replaces it with the last color added to the palette, whatever it is. It doesn't matter what color I select to be the "new" color, it uses the last color I added to the palette.

I got that once today. It went away after I closed the design, opened new pattern, pasted the one I was working on to the new (I was making colour option previews and I didn't want to take the risk to actually modify the original - I am distant minded, I could do that, you see) and changed the colour...
Anyway, you're not alone!

I kept closing the pattern after it changed it wrong. Since I was testing, I was smart and saved the pattern BEFORE I tried to change any colors. I had the color I wanted and didn't want to change it (or the palette).
Want to make it even nastier? How about this? I just marked an area, selected a color change but said change all. It changed it to a color that's not even in the palette! It changed it to a color I had put in the palette to test but had removed. It remembered a color that is no longer valid.

Diane,
Did this happen with the 8.03.04 software?

Keeps on happening even with the latest update.

Mark,
The color replacing seems to work properly in 8.03.04. I tried it with and without an area selected.
It even kept the correct symbols unless I did an "undo". That lost the definitions in the selected part but they were correct when you exited that mode or went to another area.

Mark, definition to the problem:
it happens when I copy design (always my own), or part of it, from one grid to another and then try to change entire pattern's colour on the new grid. Even if the colour I am replacing the old one with is nowhere to be seen in the palette I get that.
But after Okaying the message it does change the colour anyway.
I seem to find the bugs just because I use this software in a bit quirkier way than most, it seems.
(I'm using PCStitch Pro 8.03.04 on XP SP 2.)

Outi,
It must be something to do with your operating system.
I try what I think is the same thing:
- Load an existing pattern - Mark part of it to copy (single color) - Create new pattern - Paste copied area into new pattern - select "brand new color" - replace existing color with new color
Result - change as directed with no error message.
I am running ME so that may be part of the situation. I also have Excel, Word, Notepad, MS Exploer, Firefox, and Foxit as well as Zone Alarm and AVG Free running at the same time as PCStitch. What else is running in the background, I don't know, just system stuff.

You know Diane, those two letters explain it all: XP.
Hmm, I checked what happens if it is copied from recently opened design and pasted to new grid. Nothing. No errors. I pasted same design part again, on the same grid with first one, kept it highlighted and chose entire pattern: error, but in that case it is understandable. It was out of range, so to speak. When I "un-highlight" it and do the same, no errors.
So, this seems to me partly a PEBKAC, but there still is nasty little bug in some parts... I think. Or hope, otherwise I am very ashamed of myself.

I was able to reproduce this problem, and I will try to get it fixed soon. In the mean time, here is a work around.
The problem is that the palette for the pasted area isn't merged with the main pattern palette until the selection is actually "placed" which doesn't occur until you select something else or change draw modes. To get around this in the short time, just click the pattern somehwere else after you paste and before you try to perform any of the palette manipulation tools.
