I would like to design a Christmas stocking for one of my children. using the motif library purchased and installed. Now I need to figure out how to use PCStitch Pro to work up the pattern design. The last several times I've tried to work up a pattern there has been a problem with getting the stitch count and fabric count to work out. It is for sure something I'm doing wrong but I can't figure it out. Now I want to do something a lot more ambitious and my head hurts thinking about it.
I too have tried to make a pattern for a Christmas stocking and it was very frustrating!! I've also tried making baby bibs-(for my grandchildren) and that has been difficult if not impossible also. The farthest I've gotten was to "draw the shape" then scan it as a picture on my pc then "underlay" it in my pattern and then fit the design inside that shape. It doesn't always work though. I wish that there were templates such as these that we could use with pro.... maybe that will get added in the future???
What is the size of the stitchable area on the stocking? You should be able to measure it and put in the correct cloth count and it should be very close. What isn't appearing to be corect when you put in your measurements?
Hey Mark, the measurements don't really work because in a Christmas Stocking you have the 'foot' part that's wider than the 'leg' part so if you put in the larger measurements then when you stitch it it isn't in the 'stocking' shape- same thing for bibs too. It's like if your creating a pattern from scratch the stitcher needs some form of boundries and the templates would help a great deal. At least that's how it is for me.
Some stocking patterns have the "edges" shown as backstitch lines. it's not that they are intended to be backstitched but it just shows the "seam lines" of the completed project.
You could do the same and save that as a "base" and just copy it or load and Save As when you make your stocking pattern. You could even save it as a library item just for this purpose.
Bibs are more difficult because they are of differing sizes and shapes. Also, you can buy pre-made bibs and just stitch any small design on them that seems to fit.
