I have successfully changed photos into patterns and now know how to make my own palette but one of the biggest problems with changing photos into patterns is the interpretation of the computer as to the colours. I find laying my chosen colours out and making my own paletter helps enormously but I would like to know if there is a source that helps chose the right colours for a subject. E.g. if I want to stitch a ginger cat is there a site that enables me to chose the best colours for that project?

So much of pattern creation is personal preference.

Also, what you see is very different than what the computer sees.

I see no way of automating that.

Even if you wanted the best colors for a 'ginger cat', there are other things that would be involved and there are different shades of "ginger" from a blond to an almost orange. I once had one that was named Molasses because that was his coloring.
