some of my customers are trying to download the patterns and are getting a message " Invalid format " I've been saving the patterns the same as I always do Microsoft print to PDF

The patterns are created in .pat format. Printing to create a PDF is something in the scope of how you are creating the PDF. I suggest you try something else, such as Foxit (Adobe Clone) which has a PDF printer within it.

There is something in what Microsoft is doing that may be beyond what some users can do or maybe they are using a different PDF reader and something is not compatible.

I suggest you also check with them what their environment is -- specifically, the Operating system and the PDF reader they are using.
