Howdy! In reading this forum, I see that others have been using the standard PCS. Have you found this easy to use?

I would be a beginner, using this program for my own art use, and wonder if this program is enough to get started with.

It is good for a beginner however I would say just go for the Pro. You will try the beginning program and love it $39.99 but you will want the Pro before long because it can do even more. Try the free trial of Pro and see what I mean. Save yourself time and money and just go for the pro.
