that's the only way I can describe what is happening.
Working on a chart, when I enter the stitch, it will skip to an abutting square, the same thing will happen when I use the backstitch, or using the erase feature.
It used to happen only once in a while, but of course, I'm working on a chart that I need to get out, and it is happening about every 4th or 5th stitch I try to enter!
Additional information: I'm running PC Stitch7, using an underlying image, I like to input with the virtual stitch. Any help will be appreciated.

Are you sure that it's in the software? As that sounds to me like a dirty mouse (ball or base (if it's optical)) or badly configured touchpad (or mouse).

It could also be "poor aim" with the mouse. I've done that myself (both Standard and Pro) where if you have the mouse aim off, you could actually be pointing into the next stitch without you being aware of it. The problem is even more noticeable for fractionals. One thing you might try is to increase the zoom to make your stitches a bit bigger. Then you would less likely to miss-aim your mouse pointer.

Does this only happen when you are using an underlay image? Is there a grid on the undeline image that could be not correctly lined up with the grid lines on the main window?

It seems to happen the most when I have my stitch set to 14ct. It doesn't matter how much I zoom it, but when it's at 300 or 400, I've been watching the curser, if it isn't exactly in the lower right corner of the square I want it, then it will jump.
But at 300 or 400 zoom, it's hard to tell where I am in the design.
The underline image does not have a grid, although, this is one of the largest designs I've done (it's a Noah's Ark for the Infant Receiving Blanket by Charles Craft with a design area of 26 inches by 26 inches). Could it be that the design is just too big?
I once had a bad mouse, and know how much trouble that can be. This mouse doesn't have the ball, it has the little light, and I keep that clean. As far as the mouse pad, don't know, is it possible to wash them?

If you are using an optical mouse, the cleanliness of your mouse pad shouldn't be an issue.
Is it all stitch types (full, 3/4, 1/4, etc that are giving you this problem?
