Hi all,

Since I got the latest update it seems that pro is using alot more resources on my pc. And if I use pro to browse my patterns (I have tons) before I can get thru half of them a window pops up and says the windows is low on memory and pro closes (eventually... takes a few for it to close completly) is anyone else having this prob? I have already done a virus scan and spyware scans and havent found any probs there.... just wondering if its only an issue for me

I'm confused. I know that your internet security can affect many other things but the connection between Norton and PatternsOnline.com is totally separate from PCStitch Pro.

I had to remove McAfee because it's overhead was killing me and it blocked access to the internet almost entirely but that did not cause resource problems in non-internet based software.

So long as you are not trying to access the internet (update for example), Norton Internet Security should have nothing to do with PCStitch Pro. Just as Patternsonline.com has noting directly to do with Pro. It just provides files that pro can read.

Hey Diane,
It wasn't me that posted about Norton... :>
But I do know that norton can-has-will cause probs on certain web pages even though it may not have anything to do with them. I use Norton and have tried others but always go back to NIS because it does work.. anyhoo, this is now 2008 and I still have the same resource hogging problems from PCSPro and have since bought Hobbyware's program --- expensive --- but really awesome with no hogging of my resources...
huggs to everyone and hope everyone is doing well....

Renee,

Don't give up. It could be your virus protector that could be causing some of your problems. I have been having problems even signing in for months, and then when it did, and I went to download the freebie for the month, it would bounce right back to the sign in page. I have been reading similar problems in many of the other message boards, and today, I finally figured out what the problem has been.

First of all most of my problems began when I started using Norton. It is unlike any other protection program that I have ever used in the past. I was like you trying every suggestion and still nothing would work. BUT finallyI clicked on the one thing that I had never tried in the past attempts.
Right click on <Norton's icon> in the bottom right corner of your screen.
Left click on <Disable Norton Internet Security>

Now try signing in again, and clicking on any of the other options on Patternsonline.com. It has been like a miracle with that simple adjustment.

Norton has far more protections than any other anti-virus program I have ever tried. As long as you have your E-mail protected that is one of the most important protections you want to keep enabled. The above procedure simply unties all of the restrictions for you while you are on the Internet and attempting to download things, especially patterns.

Renee, I do hope you will try this if you are using Norton.

No problem so far with mine PSC Pro

PCstitch Pro v8.02.004

I have a new version of PCStitch Pro that has had a lot of the internals rewritten to try to resolve some of the resource issues that we have had on some older PC's. If anyone would like to try it out and let me know if it is better, please let me know via email at mmiller@pcstitch.com.

THIS IS STILL TEST SOFTWARE!! If you are using the Pro now and NOT having problems, I would suggest thay you stick with what you have until we know for sure that it is better than the old version.

With that warning, I would still love to get as much feedback as possible.

Thanks.

If you have Microsoft Excel, Word or Office, it may also help to delete the history there!

Hi SweetPeaTNT
I tried your suggestion and it worked to a certain degree but still not able to print a pattern or print to pdf. I can't even create a pattern larger than 8.5 x 11 inches.

My solution was to get different software. That really works. I will still be waiting to see if something gets done but it's really been a long time now.
Thanks so much,

I don't know about XP but for ME, there is a much simpler way of doing it.

First check how many "documents" are showing by clicking on Start, mouse down to Documents and pull the mouse to the right slightly. If the list seems long, continue with these steps.

1) Right-click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen (any blank area)
2) Select (left-Click) on Properties
3) There are two tabs at the top, left click on Advanced
4) The next page has an option: To remove records of recently accessed documents, programs and Web sites, click Clear. Click on the Clear button.

That's all there is to it. Now if you do the check step (top of post), the list of documents will show a gray Empty.

I don't have the resource problem with PCStitch but the memory on my machine is very tight. This trick does seem to help.

If you are having any problems with using too much resources? Click on <start> in the lower left corner. Click on <Settings> Click on <Task Bar and Start Menu> Click on <Clear> for Windows XP> Click on <Start> Click on <Settings> Click on Task Bar and Start Menu> Click on <Star Menu> Click on <Customize> Click on <Clear> When the waiting clears click on the white X in the red square in the upper right corner to speed the clearing time. Click on the white X in the red square again to close the final window.

After following the above procedure, Click on <Start> Click on <Programs> and you should not have anything showing below the line, You should see the word (Empty) in light gray. You have successfully cleared the past files that you have recently opened. This clears the resources and you can continue. This also applies anytime you get the message that you are running short on resources. Try to make it a habit to clear it out before and after working with a scanner too, because it will allow approximately 10 files in that list and then it will freeze. Before you start up any programs e.g., PC Stitch or any photo programs automatically clear out the resources. You can easily see if it needs to be cleared before it freezes by Clicking on <Start> Click on <Programs> If you see a list of more than 5 files under the line, follow the above procedure. It will save you a lot of frustration and time while working any of these type of programs.

Hi again,
I havn't posted for a while because I have been very busy. But I really echo Renee's post about nothing being done. There was a big splash in Nov. then completely nothing. Where's the update that supposed to fix everything including the pattern viewer? Two months later the big problems still exist.

Well, I have decided to give up on M&R, PCStitch and Patternsonline. I have had nothing but problems and everyone 'offers' to help but then nothing ever gets done. I am so dissapointed. I have been such a loyal customer that its really hard to give up but since no one ever has gotten back with me what else is there for me to do????
I will not be recomending this program/company to anyone and will do my best to caution everyone that I know to think twice before they waste their money as I feel like my money has been wasted!!!!!!

Hi everyone,
I am giving a update on the memory problems I was having with pro. The software actually doesn't have a memory leak. I started having problems with the program using up all the virtual memory a couple of updates back.

After a couple of weeks trying to figure out why I kept having so much trouble with pro using so much memory. I finally gave up and decided just to convert all of my pro patterns to pcstitch7 files. The updating was going very slow until this pattern I went to convert and the software told me that this was a file from an older version of pro and in order for the file to be opened or work right it needed to be upgraded. I clicked ok and the file upgraded to the version I have now. Since that happened pc stitch pro is working great. No problems with the memory. No delay in the buttons or photo to cross stitch pattern process. Just that one old file caused so much havoc.

Thanks Mark for all of your help in this process...This is one that just couldn't be duplicated on your computer.

So does this mean that those of us with problems are out of luck until they get the 'view' done??? Man, this is really getting old for me!!! I am so dissapointed with PCStitch Pro!!!
