Hi, I'm new at this and am having a great time trying to figure out the program. I'm having a hard time trying to adjust the colors. Everthing is reading really dark. Greens read black and skin tones are really off. Am I supposed to change it manually (stitch by stitch) or is there an easier way? Thanks for your help. Jo-Anne

Jo-Anne,

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying a photo you are importing is dark? If that is the case, you should try to adjust it with photo software that allows you to adjust the brightness/contrast/color of the photo. Then import it into PCSitch.

I tend to have the opposite problem. I had a photo with a black background. The imported version was a dark navy blue, just a tad-bit lighter than black. As I was eliminating the background anyway, I just threw out the color! It worked in my case.

Diane, Thanks for answering so fast! The picture is fine, no problems but my print out comes out much darker. Very light baby skin is coming out as if the baby was on the beach without sunscreen for a week. Light blue eyes read navy or black. Jo-Anne

Jo-Anne,

If the picture looks fine but doesn't print fine, then maybe you need to check the printer definitions. I don't know much about that area. My printer is old and the print cartridges are expensive so I normally just use the black one.

I print with symbols (without the color) as the easiest way to follow a pattern. I then copy it (to preserve the "master") and mark off as I stitch.

Jo-Anne,

I am having the same problem. I have been trying to convert a picture of my MIL's kitchen tile design to stitch on a hand towel. The pattern itself comes across beautifully, but the DMC colors that have been chosen by the program are way off. What should be sage green is closer to khaki etc. It's a fairly complicated design and I really don't want to have to manually adjust each color! I am admittedly a new user so perhaps I am missing something crucial about importing? Is there a way I can tell the program one of the right colors and have it adjust all the others accordingly?

I have tried adjusting the colors, balance etc. before creating the pattern, but no luck. Do I need to choose a palette myself first? I hesitate to do this because I only color matched one thread surreptitiously last time I visited. =) I'm not sure of the others.

Btw, when I print the picture before importing the colors print fine so I know that they are correct. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Julie

Julie,Hi. One thing I have found, is that when you first import the picture you can adjust the brightness. That tends to lighten up the pattern. I preview it before I print until I get the color to where I want( your original may look way too light, but it seems to work). Since I use symbols also, it takes a few tries and some time to match color to symbol, but it is better than printing your pattern each time. There may be an easier way,but I don't know the program well enough. Jo-Anne
