Hiya I've just acquired a new super duper bells'n'whistles PC; have reinstalled and unlocked PCS Pro, and have a strange issue: I can open any of the .PAT files that came with the program, but cannot open any of my designs. The software opens fine, but then nothing... no error messages - just: no file. Any clues, anyone? I did download the update when I tried to run the app.
Hopefully, Sandy |

Try opening them from within PCStitch. Open the software and then click on the "Open" command.
Another thing to check is the Browse panel. Use it to bring up the folder desired and see if it even recognizes the patterns as PCStitch files.

Hi Diane
Yep, tried both ways, it does recognise my designs as PSC Pro files, but won't open them. It's just plain weird! And of course it's a design that I've had for a while, have opened many times before, and need to print for a kit. I wonder if it'll open in 7? Might be worth a go eh?

I have a few suggestions:
1: Start a remove (from add/remove). When it asks if you want to remove it say "No". It will do "maintenance" on it. That may correct the problem.
2: Re-Install it without uninstalling first (over the current install).
3: Un-install and re-install.
It may be something funny that happened during the install.
I would try these from the top. If one works - DON'T try the next - just stop there.
Good Luck!

Good idea - and there was indeed a problem during the initial install, the install hung at "installing PC Stitch symbol font" - no HD activity mind you . After about 5 minutes I got fed up waiting for it and Hit ctl+alt+del. The program was still responding so I terminated it anyway.
I just ran the install again and there it sits, waiting to install the PC Stitch symbol font. I might go fetch that off my old puter and install it manually, see what happens... this is annoying though and holding up orders :/

Okay I did all that - errors everywhere so uninstalled completely. Then reinstalled and this time it installed fine, but same issue - I can see the sample files, but not my own designs.
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH

Sandy,
A few more suggestions at this point is to check the version you are running. If it isn't 8.02.04, then you should check for upgrades and upgrade it.
Check what font you are running. It may be that you do not have the appropriate font loaded and that is confusing your older designs. The default is "PCStitch Symbol Font 2". You might check your other fonts. Check in C:\Windows\Fonts\ for the fonts. I have two versions of each of the PCStitch Symbols and PCStitch Symbols 2. One version has (True Type) as part of the file name. If you don't have them, maybe you can copy them from your OLD machine and try the install again.
If this doesn't work, I'm afraid I have to turn it over to Mark. I'm out of ideas!

Hey we might be getting somewhere! I downloaded the update file (again) and ran that. Again opened a sample file no problem, then attempted to open one of my own files. This time it gave an error message that it wanted Alphabet Collection 1 off one of the CDs I bought ages ago (the design has some stitched wording) - and the notice that to open this pattern I need to reinstall the CD. So I've eventually found that and done the install. and ta-dah!
So the problem was that the original install wasn't good, so that it couldn't generate the correct error message to tell me what to do next. Simple really :)
LIke you Di I've been using a computer for ages, since DOS days, and can do most things. Thanks for the reminder though that the simple processes are often where the solution lies. Appreciate your time :)

Glad I could help, Sandy!
I'm a teacher at heart and I always have to put my two-cents in to try to help.
Remember that when you re-install the pattern pieces, you'll have to "upgrade them". Make sure a copy is in Pro's library folder. When you try to open it, it will tell you it needs to update it and then let it go. You only have to do it once.
Now you can enjoy your software again!
