Hello,
Sorry for the long story but i am really distraught..... After days trying, searching and "crying", I give up.... Must I really make my patterns all over again? I feel like I'm stuck, cannot use my own list and not the original DMC Stranded cotton list. So I have a few questions about custom floss list:
I made my own list "Esther" with all DMC colors minus the 35 new ones, because that's my stock and PCStitch will not use the new colors when converting an image or photo.
My own list gives me a lot of trouble. I cannot use DMC as a List ID (It's is already used for the original DMC Stranded cotton list), so no DMC is mentioned in the legend with manufactured key. Manufacture ID is what I came up with for my floss list. "Mapped flosses to multiple families" can no longer be used and if it is set up, many functions are no longer possible, such as opening printer, and errors show up. Converting to other pallet is also not possible.
I deleted my list again and because I had experimented a lot with my floss lists I removed PcStitch, ran Ccleaner removing register items, rebooted and re-installed PcStitch, rebooted again. (I read in the Help to re-install).
But in the created patterns the Id's and use of functions remain a problem. Patterns are therefore not made 'default' when opened with original PcStitch. Data from the non-existent list "Esther" remains in the pattern.
How can I make my own list with legend with manufactury key DMC?
How can I convert these patterns made with my old list to an original one and reset the Id's and keys placed by list "Esther"?
How can I indicate in my own list what alternative color families are? Like with Mapped flosses for multiple families?
I tend to recreate all (made with flosslist 'Esther') with default DMC stranded cotton, but than I can not solve the missing colors problem. It does not make me happy to start all over again and knowing that this feature seems not working the way I asspected it would.
Because I tried different list-id's (123 EHD 321) in different (made with floss list 'Esther), I now have many combination of manufacture keys in the legend after re-install.
such as: [2] 123 312 navy blue [2]123-844 beaver gray [2] EHD 208 lavender [2] 123-DMC White
I wish it was like this with mine floss list: [2] DMC 310 black
And this errors, I think PcStitch does not reconize a custom list even it contains only DMC? It says:
An unexpected error has occurred:
"the object reference is not set to an instance of an object"
Do you want to email this information to pcStitch technical support?

What I do to avoid the mess of "default" colors that you see when you open the software and therefore a new pattern is to SELECT a few colors (for me, just DMC 310) and define a symbol for all that I select. Then, under Tools > Palette Tools is an option to "Save Palette" and one to "Make Palette the default".
That may not help with your attempt to skip the obsolete colors but it will minimize the issue. From there, you create your pattern using the Palette you see at the bottom. If you don't need them all, you can later remove the colors you are not using with a single command and that will affect ONLY the one pattern and not the palette itself.
As for the error message, I don't know. I've never made a true custom floss - I've just used the default flosses and made my own palette from them.

Thank you for your response and your time! If I understand your message correctly, you are talking about creating a (default) pallet. Possible confusion caused by me naming "listkey" wrongly "listID"? I know how pallets work.
I am talking about using a custom made flosslist with flosseditor and using it in my patterns. I've listed mine floss that's all DMC minus 1-35. Floss editor-new list "Esther" - start with list DMC Stranded- removed 1-35. I must enter a listkey at list "Esther", which seems to appeare as a manufacture key in the legend. Using listkey DMC is not allowed so I invented one (123,321,EHD) but nobody knows what it means. Now I finished my custom flosslist "Esther" and hoped to use it when importing a photo, so 1-35 would not appeare in the patterns.
The listkey I invented is placed in the legend. I uncheck manufacture key, is it still next to the text "legend" How can I (using my selfmade flosslist) indicate in the legend which brand (DMC) the colors are ? Only through an instruction sheet? How do I ensure that mine invented listkey does not appear in the legend?
Also can't convert patterns, made with selfmade flosslist, to other manufactures? Once using list "Esther" in a pattern, PcStitch keeps recornizing "Esther", cutting/pasting to a completle new project using a default floss list doesn't help.
Maybe it's quicker to purchase DMC 1-35 so I'll have all DMC colors when converting photo's?
Other question, how do I change the font of the information sheet? Symbols and text in legend are much too small for me. Have already trying with header / footer options, but the symbol and color list remains small. (I don't mean the font of the instruction sheet, that's easy). I can't find it in help.pdf, nor here. Possibly a language problem...

I've not done anything with personalized floss colors to I can't say anything about that. The only way to get other to use a .pat with the new colors is to provide them with the list and how to use it. I guess that's why .pdf files are used rather than .pat files when such specialization is used. Fixing the naming issue is something I can't help you with.
Since your reasoning for using your own floss list is to avoid mapping to those colors you don't have, maybe an easier thing to do is just let the import happen and then REPLACE those colors that it chooses that you don't have with ones you do have.
Just select the old color from the floss palette and then go to Available colors to find the replacement. Right click on the color and select "Replace" and it will replace the bad color with the good color.
As for your formation sheet issue - check out the Information Sheet option in the Print dialog. It not only allows you to say what to display, but what fonts and sizes to use for the text. That may help.
Good Luck,

You're welcome! No Problem!
There are so many little bitty things in the Options that it is easy to miss things. I've been playing with PCStitch since version 7 and had a copy of 6 from some of the Pattern Piece Libraries (now built-in to PCStitch) at one time. That dates back to 2004!
I don't do much designing but I play with it and when I get questions, I do research if I can. Some things I can't easily do.
I do admit that part of how I know about all those little bitty options is I have them noted for when I upgrade and/or transition to a new computer. It sure saves time!
