| Hi I am new to this but my question is, when I save a pattern I have been working on the next time I open it up it comes out as all black squares, there is no color. And when I search my computer for it comes up as an internet explorer .bot file that I can't open. |

First - what operating system are you using?
Next - how are you saving it? If you are using the normal save command, it creates a .pat file. Any intermediate save after the first one for a pattern renames the .pat file to .bpt (backup) and creates a new .pat file. Subsequent .bpt files are removed and just the previous "generation" is available.
Note - you TELL the computer where to save the file. You should not have to search for it. Look at the file save window and it is indicated where the file is. I think the default is in your "Documents" in a "PCStitch Patterns" folder. I always define my own places for files(of all types - if I can).

| Hi thank you for responding. I am using Windows 10. When I am done working on it I click save as, then type the name. In the box it says save as type: it says pcstitchfiles(*.PAT) then I click save. The next time I go to open it up it comes in all black squares. Every half hour my comp asks me if I want to save my work and I hit yes, should I turn that option off. |

You should not turn off that auto-save. You can change the timing. That's to prevent you losing too much if something happens. That includes a power failure, the machine hanging up on you (not necessarily with PCStitch) and nothing works so you have to reboot. Things like that.
Just to give an idea as to why saving your work is advisable, I'd like to tell you a story that goes back about 30 years. I was working at a company as a software engineer (basically a programmer at that point). We were using a big IBM main frame. This was well before PCs were even invented. We didn't have the smart terminals like PCs, we had "dumb terminals" that were hard-wired to the mainframe in a time-sharing like environment. We were barely beyond the use of the old IBM cards then. A co-worker was in a corner working on a project. She had been working on the code for a couple of hours. Because the system was slow, she did not save her work as she KNEW she should. Suddenly, there was a glitch and the computer crashed! Everybody in the area heard her agonized yell! She had LOST an entire afternoon's work because she didn't want to "waste" a few minutes here or there! Don't be like her, save your work routinely. The auto-save is good so you don't have to remember!
