The design must be in a .pat format for the version of PCStitch you have or an earlier version. Just load it in and edit it! Make sure you save your changes. If you want to be extra safe that you don't lose your starting point, I would make a copy of the design (in a different name, even if you just add 'copy' to the name and then edit it.
