| Why can't I open my Pro 10 patterns in my Pro 9 program? I use them both. |

Each version of PCStitch makes changes to the format of the file but keeps the same extension of PAT. Each version can accept all prior versions of the software by simply having it programmed to know the format changes of the prior versions.
Also, each version is built upon the previous version. It has all of those features plus new features. Therefore, although a new version can read and execute any pattern of any prior version, the reverse is not true. Because a pattern may have features that are not yet available in an earlier version, earlier versions cannot read the newer versions patterns.
If you wish to share patterns between versions, you should avoid special features and export to version 7 format. Both can export to 7 and both can read 7.

Hi there this is my first time working with software to help with my pattern making... As of right now I don't have a printer and have to go to my local library to use theirs... I finally did my first pattern and went to print it. I sent it to myself in an e-mail I opened the e-mail and it wouldn't open in the pat. form... Is there another form such as gif or a jpeg to save the patterns in??? Do you know another way for me to print it??? I still have A LOT to learn but look forward to the challenge!!!

You can only print a pat file if the computer where you are trying to print has PCStitch installed. You have 2 choices - one is to export to a jpg but that is more difficult and you lose a lot of the printing options.
The other choice is to install a "virtual printer" such as PrimoPDF and "Print" to the "device" thereby creating a PDF that you can email to yourself and use to print on a public PC. PrimoPDF and many of the similar products are free so there's no problem there.
They act just like a printer. You just chose that "device" when you "print".

| You can download CutePDF Writer for free. When you go to print option, select "printer setup", then from the drop down choose Cute PDF Writer under printer name and "OK". Then when you press print, it will not print, but save your pattern as a .pdf file. I save mine to a folder named "Patterns" on my desktop for easy access. You can then email these to yourself and they should print beautifully on any printer connected to a computer where you can access your email. |

I've not heard of CutePDF but it sounds like it works just like PrimoPDF. It's good that there are multiple choices to fit any user's needs.
