From what I've seen, this product accepts .pat files as well as it's own .pvf formatted files. It's designed to handle other crafts beyond cross-stitch. However, it does not work well with PCStitch in one sense. It "steals" the .pat extension from PCStitch.
I had it installed for a trial but had to remove it. Because it would not let got the .pat extension, I had to open PCStitch and load a file from there rather than double-click on it. This was difficult because many of my files are in zips and you can't open them from outside the .zip.
Is there any way to install the Pattern Viewer and prevent it from taking this format? In otherwords, if you have any version of PCStitch installed, have it recognize they are there and let them have "first dibs". Maybe make it an option in the program.
A competitor (sorry), PatternMaker also has old files in the .pat format. Newer files use .xsd. I was able to tell PatternMaker to leave the .pat files alone and let PCStitch have them. To avoid confusion, any patternmaker files I get in .pat are renamed to .xsd to avoid confusion.
I would like to have this product on my PC for the .pvf cross-stitch files as well as for the other crafts but I'm not willing to battle over the extension.

I have to have the PC Stitch Patternviewer AS WELL AS the full version since pol has some in that format. What I did (not sure how) was get the computer to recognise the difference in the two programs. I THINK i tricked it by using "Open With" going through my computer => program files and all that. I have to tell my computer NO every time I open a patternmaker file though.
It would be easier if they were different, but I am not holding my breath there.

I want to be able to double-click on any .pat file and have it open into PCStitch, even if it is withing a .zip file. If I have Pattern Viewer installed, the double-click will open it into Pattern Viewer. If it's a .pat file that I am currently creating, that is one big pain! If it's just a freebie or other file in PCStitch format, it's not a big deal.
I was able to tell PatternMaker not to use the .pat but I couldn't do the same for Pattern Viewer.
There is a way through Windows to determine the default program to use for any extension but if you go that route, you often lose the distinct icon noting the program. (red 3X3 grid for PCStitch, or Big blue W for Word as example).

Like I said, I CAN do that......I just don't know how I got it to agree with me.
Try this:
WIth Pattern Viewer installed, go through the steps to show your patterns and RIGHT click on one and "Open With" That MIGHT fix it, but I don't hold my breath. That is all I can figure that I did.
