| In a misguided moment, I downloaded the free PatternMaker Viewer in order to download some free patterns from the Michaels website. Now all my PCStitch patterns have a PM.XS extension, and the Viewer doesn't recognize its own patterns. I have deleted the PatternMaker Viewer, but the extensions are still there in my Pro pattern files. How can I fix this? |

You can rename them individually. Windows will complain (confirm) but it will do it. Another possibility is to use old fashioned DOS.
If you cannot find a menu option for "MS DOS", click on start > Run and have it run "Command".
Then when you are in the DOS window, use the CD command to go to the folder needed. If it is "Cross Stitch Patterns" in "My Documents", the command would be: CD "C:\My Documents\Cross Stitch Patterns" or CD C:\MYDOCU~1\CROSSS~1
Then use the command: REN *.PM.XS *.PAT. If your files are in other files, then you need to do the CD (Change Directory) to move to the next folder.
If there is a way to do it all at once, I'm not aware of it. I've never seen software actually renames the data files before.

| The PatternMaker Viewer changed the file type, not the extension, which is still .pat. Is there any way to revert the file type back to the original? The patterns still open in PCStitch, but all the file types are now PM.XSDocument. |

| I fixed this! In the drop-down menu when right-clicking on the files, I selected "open with" and then asked that all files of this type be opened with PCStitch Pro. The files have now reverted to PCStitch Pro files. Whew! |

Did you lose the little red grid icon? I do when I do that. If Version 7 or something else "steals" the .pat extension from Pro, I just start to delete pro but tell it not to continue. It gives a message about doing "maintenance" on Pro and takes back control of the .pat files.

The file .pat from Michaels web site aren't for PC-STITCH, but for
PATTERN MAKER of Hobbyware.
You can download the viewer from the relative web site. For not confused then you can give the .XSD exstension.

I found that one, too. The only thing you have to remember is Windows doesn't like you to change extensions. It ALWAYS complains. If I have a bunch to do, I go to MS-DOS and use the REN command. Then I don't get a complaint and get them all done faster.
