Posted - 12/06/2006 : 17:47:40 I used to love to cross stitch all the time, but then started getting carpal tunnel really bad so I stopped. Recently I by chance came across this website and after seeing the upgraded software want to dive back into cross stitching again! I still have carpal tunnel and was wondering if anyone knows of any gadgets (that work) that are out there to aid people such as myself. I've come across a few web sites showing hoop holding stands and wrist supports, but not sure if any of them are worth my time or money. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

Posted - 02/20/2007 : 11:44:45 I have similar problems with my hands (arthritis) having been a knitter, cross stitcher, etc for over 20 years. I had to give up knitting because of the pain and had just about reached a point of having to give up cross stitching.
Then I read somewhere that a parrafin wax bath would help my hands so I bought one from Walmart for about $40. I have used it for over a year now and I no longer have pain in my hands. I just leave it plugged in and dip my hands before I knit or stitch to warm them up and right before I go to bed.
I hope this helps!

Posted - 12/06/2006 : 20:21:41 I don't have carpal tunnel but I do have a bad case of trigger finger / tendinitis in one finger of my left hand (yes, I'm a lefty) so I have similar constraints to my stitching. This form of tendinitis is the same as carpal tunnel but in the finger joint rather than the wrist joint.
I think we could both still do normal stitching so long as we didn't do it for very long at a time. Such as, stitch for about 10 - 15 minutes and then take a short break. As long as we don't stress the joint we should be able to do it.
The closest I have found to anything that will help is one of those gloves (no fingers) to keep the hand and wrist warm and the movement of the hand massages the base of the fingers. It may help with carpal tunnel as well. At less than $5.00 (at Walmart), it may be worth a try.
