Posted - 02/18/2014 : 20:33:22 I have been cross stitching for years but I would like to get some ideas from others on their ways of arranging threads etc. I seem to always end up in a mess. Thanks for any new ideas Anne |

Posted - 03/15/2014 : 15:06:44 Hi, I am new to the group...I have my floss in a large divided box, with special made bobbins (3X2 3/4) they are sorted by number. I can find anything easy. For the project I am working on now I tried putting each color I am using, into a insert that is used for holding trading cards (buy at $ store and has 9 spots in it)first time trying this and so far it is working pretty good. I can just tuck the extra small pieces into the card slot as well.

In what way do you mean "arrange"? For a project? General Stash? It varies.
For each project, I like to use "floss flies" (some hand made) for the individual colors. If it's a kit, it's easy to put each color in one hole and carefully pull out your strands from the looped knots used.
Even for a pattern that you raid your stash to use, the floss fly works but it usually doesn't have all the colors on at once. You just put what you need.
I do mark (in pencil) the hole number for the color on the pattern so I can see that this symbol is this number on the fly. If multiple flies are used, they are lettered.
You can make your own flies using cardboard or poster stock and a hole punch or even some "pill packs" I saved the packs long after I quit the medication so I have 2 sizes of the oval flies for that. The term "Floss Fly" comes from the fact that the original plastic ones were shaped like butterflies with 24 holes around the wings (12/wing). It actually said "Floss Fly" molded into the center.
For general stash, I have a combination of bobbins and bags of loose floss. I am slowly putting the bobbins into the little bags and freeing up the boxes that I inherited from my mother for other purposes - VERY slowly. I also have my "over stock", extra skeins of colors -- mostly purchased from Walmart some years ago when it (temporarily as it turned out) shut down it's cross-stitch area completely.
My stash is all over the place but I can find it -- by brand or company and by color. Some aren't organized as well as others but even the special flosses (like rayon and metallic) are kinda organized.
Diane There is no such thing as a stupid question
