I cannot figure out how to reduce an image for a pattern or how to reduce the pattern on the grid. HELP PLEASE!

Soddy,

At the top of the window is a drop down menu that you can also manually insert a "zoom" factor. Give a larger number and your grid and symbols are larger. Give a smaller number and they are smaller. For pattern creation I normally user 14 count and 175%.
