Hi all :)

I am not finding the option of making PC Stitch Pro the default program for my pc stitch patterns.......every time I click on a .pat file, it opens up in PC Stitch 7.....can someone help me about that ?

Thanks :)

I don't have an "advanced" option. All I have is Ok, cancel and Other!

The trick in the stand-alone thread using Explorer's tools did work as it had the advanced option needed!

Yes but it takes a few steps. I'm working in XP Pro but it should be similar for and Win9x/Me system.

First you need to tell Windows to open .bpt files with PCStitch. Right click a file and select Open. Make sure the 'always open with this program' (I can't remember the exact phrase off-hand) box is checked. PCStitch will start but it won't open the .bpt file so there's no worries there. Close PCStitch.

Now .bpt files should have the same icon as PCStitch. To change it to the .pat icon, in Windows Explorer click Tools > Folder Options, then click the File Types tab. Scroll down until you see the BPT entry. Click it and click the Advanced button in the "Details for 'BPT' extension" section. Click the Change Icon button and then click the Browse button. Navigate to where you have PCStitch pro installed. Go into the Misc folder that's in there. Click PCSPat.ico and click Open. Click OK then OK. Close the Folder Options window.

Your .bpt files will now have the same icon as the .pat files.

Gerda,

I have never had that little stunt fail. One way to see the default open option is to right click on the name and look at the list of "Open With" options. If Pro is the top, then it is the default. You can use this to open it with Pro, also. It's just a little longer than a double-click.

How do i know if I'm in between updates ? I am using the latest version of Pro.....I tried what you said, and it came up with a box saying it had done maintenance but nothing changed :/

Maybe there will be a fix of this problem in the next upgrade.....putting in the option of making pro default program for all .pat files.

Thanks for your help :)

Gerda,

I have that problem ALL the time. When you upgrade Pro, it will take the default back and keep it as long as you don't open Standard. That's one of the reasonds I hate opening it now (the other is the folder it INSISTS on putting in "My Documents" that I never use).

If you're in between updates on Pro, you can do it this way.

Start the Add/Delete as if you were going to remove Pro. DON'T complete it. As soon as you get the confirmation prompt, say NO. It will do "maintenance" and put it back on top!

Any other way of selecting Pro as the primary results in losing the neat little icon beside the .pat files.

My question. Is there a way of getting that neat little icon for the .bpt files also? They look funny with the default icon and they are only renames of .pat files.
