OK, let's have a little fun here. We all know that PCStitch Pro has gone through a great deal of change in the past several months. It has gone from a program that crashed every time I tried to print to one that can go weeks without any new problems appearing.

I was told by a professor many years ago that the only completely debugged program is the one no longer in use. That is STILL true today.

There are still a number of very minor bugs in Pro that are easy to circumvent and don't affect the actual workings of the program.

I think it would be fun to find out which of these minor bugs are the most irritating. Maybe this can be used to prioritize these little nigglers.

My personal "pet peeve" of these minor bugs is the keyboard short cut for select color after the selection tool has been used. As it currently stands (including the latest update), if you use the selection tool (arrow) for anything (such as move or copy) and then use the keyboard shortcut to select a color (menu icon is eye-dropper), the mode changes to the selection tool regardless of where it started. If you do it again, it moves back to where it was. The circumvention is to use the menu icon for select color, select a color and then continue. You only have to do this once. After that the keyboard shortcut works properly.

It's such a headache for me that every time I use the selection tool, I follow it with a color selection (even if it's the same color). Then I don't have to worry if I want to use the shortcut.

OK, that's my pet peeve and I admit it's very minor. What's yours?

A minor bug with me is that when I finish an update, the 'label' at the bottom of my desktop doesn't dissapear, and only when I close down the computer. Doesn't really bother me but it would be nice if it went right away.

Here's a little bug:

When you choose the options new or open from the welcome screen,it shows the next options window, but if you have another internet window open, it sends Pro to the pack of that window, but still keeps the next options window on top.

For example now i have one browser window open (this forum). if I opened Pro and chose New, It would show the New options, this browser, then Pro behind that. Pretty irritating, but not frustrating. I doesn't happen if this browser window is minimized tho.

When using the pattern viewer, and I right click it, the options preview files and patters are reversed. When both are checked I can see both. When I uncheck preview folders, the patterns dissapear, and when I uncheck preview patterns, nothing happens.

I use Microsoft Visual Studio which looks a lot like PCStitch Pro (admittedly one of the reasons I like Pro so much). In that software, if I leave the toolbars alone, they appear and disappear dynamically as I use the software. If I customize them, Visual Studio remembers my customizations and leaves them alone. I guess I expected Pro to work the same way. If not, that's OK. If you decide to make the toolbars work this way, great! Thank you for explaining.

Jack,

Some of these toolbars aren't supposed to be visible unless you are in an area where you could use them. For example, the stitched font toolbar shouldn't be visible unless you are in text mode. I think the bug here may be in that you can turn them on with the right click.

First, I love PCStitch Pro. I can't wait for my wife to ask me for another pattern. My only irritation with it is I lose the toolbars frequently.

I right-click the toolbar area at the top of the window and turn on all the toolbars. If I exit the software, the next time I run it, the following toolbars are no longer visible: Text, Browser, Stitched Fonts and Note Format.

Using the dropdown menus also causes toolbars to disappear. For example, I click the Enhancements dropdown and click Open a Library. I click on the first library (in my case, Animals.plb), click OK, and the Text and Stitched Fonts toolbars disappear.

I did send an email to tech support a while ago, and I've installed the latest build, but I'm still experiencing the problem. To me this is only a minor problem, but I'd still like to get it resolved.

Ok Troy, you asked for it,

Everytime I try to delete bead stitches, the window pops-up to ask if I'm sure and I press ok, but nothing happens! I have to delete them one by one!

another thing is I opened Version 7 patterns with beads on them and Pro version made them into french knots.

Since the update where you changed the appearance of the beads, I've been having some problems in some charts. Once I delete the bead color, the shape of the bead goes into other "normal" colors (I'm not sure if I made myself clear on this one).

I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Have fun!!

Hello Everyone,

I just published maintenance update 8.01.03!

This version of the software resolves the issues discussed in this thread.

  • Shortcut Clicks do not reset the drawmode

  • Fixed the problem with the Phantom Stitch in rotate or flip

  • Quin's issue with the strange line in PDF output is resolved

To get the latest version, just start PCStitch Pro on your own computer, and choose the "Check for Updates" option from the help menu. The update will automatically be downloaded to your computer and installed. (This update is FREE to all PCStitch Pro users)

I liked this exercise. If other's out there have issues, the message board is a great place to post them so that we know about them and can work resolutions...

Keep the feedback coming!!!

Sincerely,
Troy Riegle

Hello Everyone,

Sounds like there were more than one of you that had some trouble with the rotate. I found the problem that caused the phantom stitch to show up. (This one took some time to find ) This too will be in the next maintenance release.

The release is scheduled to be posted this afternoon....

I appreciate all of your input on these little gotchas' If you have others, please let me know and I will look into them straight away!

Sincerely,
Troy

Troy,

You're doing such a great job tagging these little things that I have another one for you. This one, I'm ashamed to say; I've never reported during all my testing.

It's rotate! If you mark an area, the rotation doesn't always work cleanly. If the area you mark does not extend at least one stitch (blank) on all sides, usually you will get an extraneous stitch from a "border" color when you rotate it.

I'm testing as I'm doing my example. Draw a diamond shape with 3 stitches on a side (The middle of the diamond can be left blank or filled in). Mark EXACTLY to catch all stitches (a 5 X 5 stitch block). Select Rotate Clockwise. You should get the exact same image. Instead, you get an extra stitch in the upper left corner of the marked area. If you copy this kind of thing, you have to keep removing extra stitches.

Usually, I get extra cross stitches but I do occasionally get an extra backstitch instead.

If you take that same example of the diamond and extend the marked area by one stitch in each direction, the rotation does work. However, it is not always possible to mark an area without at least one stitch along the "border".

I apologize for not reporting this thing before but I normally can get around it and I kept hoping someone else would find it, too!

Quin,

Troy here. Thanks for sending me the PDF and the PAT file to work with.. That was a really strange one, but I did find what was causing the phantom line on your PDF exports. I have resolved the issue. It will be available in the next maintenance release...

Who is next?????

Hello Quin,

This is Troy from M&R. That sounds interesting.. I have Adobe here, but have not see this before... Not really sure what could be causing it. Could you send me the PDF file (triegle@pcstitch.com) so I can see it? It might be a problem in Adobe, so I can not promise I can fix it, but I will take a look..

Sincerely,
Troy

That's very possible Troy- I was able to get it to print right once but 2 minutes later I printed again and no such luck LOL! I'll send the test.pdf over to you now-

Quin
