Posted - 01/04/2007 : 05:46:21 Is anyone else having any problems downloading the patterns? I was unable to download the trial version and ended up calling and purchasing the CD, of course I was given the 30 day trial if I wanted to return it. But, I have tried to down load the monthly freebie patterns and I can't down load any of them either. I get a blank screen with a little icon in the upper left corner and that's it. I have opened up privacy to accept everything from this site including cookies, turned off the pop ups and all other protections and I still can't download any patterns.
What am I doing wrong? |

Posted - 01/07/2007 : 08:33:23 Quite often, downloading using right-click Save does work. The save command varies depending on your browser, it is sometimes Save Target As and other times Save Link As. The normal Download command can be a problem if you do not have the software on that machine (such as copying down to a work machine and PCStitch is only on your home machine). Also, many users download as Open which opens the software and loads the patterns. Then you are expected to do a Save or Save As from the software. That can cause it to be lost if you don't watch where it's putting it! I ALWAYS tell people to use Save and NEVER use Open for exactly this reason. Always make sure you have the file on your machine where you want it to be BEFORE you try to open it.

Posted - 01/07/2007 : 06:32:15 Thank you Diane. I did try to loosen up the firewall by opening it totally for pattersonline.com but it still wouldn't work.BUT!!! I finally figured out a way to force it.
When I came to the button for <Download> rather than clicking on it as normal, I right clicked on the download button and then clicked on <Save target as> and saved in the appropriate file for my downloaded PC Stitch patterns and then went into the program of PC Stitch Pro and opened the pattern within by going directly to my file. BINGO!!!!! It actually did save and I now I am able to print out the pattern when I am ready.
This method also worked on another site that I was unable to download a program that I wanted to try and BINGO!!!!!! It was saved in my Programs and also put an icon on the desk top and I was able to open it try out the program.
If you come across anyone else who has a problem downloading a pattern or other files suggest using my method. They will need to be sure to write down where they actually save the file so that they will be able to find it.
Thanks for your suggestion though. This is the first time I have ever worked with a fire wall and I also thought that might have been problem. I am totally self-taught on the computer as well as self-taught repairing, rebuilding and building computers from scratch. I am referred to as the NERD because I was able to teach myself everything.
Again Thank you. SweetPeaTNT |

Posted - 01/04/2007 : 08:16:27 You may be having a firewall problem. Make sure your firewall allows downloading. Some users on my "other" board have a similar problem. They can do everything, except download. By telling their firewall to allow such activity from the specified site or by loosening the firewall restrictions slightly, the problem goes away.
I use Firefox and have the pop-ups blocked with no problems. For the firewall, I use Zone Alarm Free (slightly older version because the new version is not supported by my system).
