I've been designing with pcs7 and pro for a while now, but I just started stitching my first multi-page pattern from pro this evening. I had been excited about the overlap shading, but found that it does me no good. I start stitching at top right, and I know many of my right-handed friends do too, so they don't hold the already stitched portion in their hand. The shading on the left side of the page is useless to me - I need it on the right! It would be nice if we could select where we want the shading to be. Or is there a way to do it that I've missed?

Thanks Diane for the lefthanded explaination.
I wasn't trying to argue with you at all about being lefthanded.
Mark had posted that he was going to try to change the way the pattern is shaded. I hope that meant that we would have the option of either right or left shading. But he wasn't specific as to what type of change would be made.
I use pro and 7 so I get to post my opinions here with everybody else.
Where the shading falls is important to me to.

I don't think where you start or how you stitch has anything to do with handedness!
I had an "argument" with someone a couple of years ago. He insisted my way of stitching was because I was left-handed. I insisted (and still do) that they way I stitch is the way the instructions show. (It is the opposite of PCStitch's "virtual" stitches).
I finally stopped the argument by stating that which way you did it wasn't right or wrong as long as you were consistent.
As for where you start the pattern, that is also varied and not by handedness.
Left handers tend to be more flexible in this BECAUSE they are left-handed. We live in a right-handed world and learn from a very early age to adapt to things designed for others, and not us. Most, but not all, left-handed people are at least partially ambidexterous. We have to be!
Please don't rely on cliche excuses to explain differences in this way. The craft is just too varied and it is not true.

I printed my pattern and no, the legends and all are normal, the only thing upside down is the pattern. And that is just on the screen. I mean unless someone is using pre-printed paper in thier printer nothing gets printed upside down because when it's done printing you still hold it right side up.
The only thing I'm doing is inverting--for lack of a better word-- my pattern then printing the normal way and the overlap is on the oposite side for those that like to start on the top right corner instead of top left.
Just pick a pattern that would normally take 2 pages and give it a try....:-D
It's really working for me. And I'm having fun with it and the fact that I finally figured it out...

I don't have a problem with the way it's printed now as I generally start in the middle and just work out from there depending on the pattern and how I feel!
However, your little trick is rather impressive! It will result in the headers and footers being upside down but that's minor. Just remember to keep the legend page rightside up! 
I do have one recommendation, though. Turn OFF the printing of the legend on the right side of each page. That will go upside down, too!
I think you have found a rather neat work-around for your problem that is not likely to be addressed in the code anytime soon.

Hi everyone, I have been trying to figure out a way to print the 'grey'area so we can start on the top right and I found a way!!!
First, save your pattern, then open it and this is what I do:
1-select all under edit menu
2-flip vertical under same menu
and sometimes there is a third step
3-filp horizontal--this one may not be needed, on one of mine when I fliped vertical it made my lettering backwards (like looking in a mirror) so I had to apply the third step and
WHA-LA!!
I printed out my pattern (yes it's supposed to be upside down on the screen but when it prints just turn the page right side up and the 'grey-overlap is on the left side instead of the right.
I haven't tried to do a long pattern, like the bell pulls, but just an idea would be to create new pat. and switch the leng and widths making it a WIDE pat, then copy your bell pull pat in and rotate it to fit.and then print....
Gosh! I am so happy to have figured this out and I really hope that it helps someone else too.

I second that motion. A lot of patterns, for example bell-pulls, are more long than wide, so it would be nice ot have the overlap on the bottom. |

I agree Missy, I too start at the right corner also. My grandmother taught my mother and they both taught me that technique.
