Posted - 07/09/2022 : 17:50:51 I can only suppose that a backstitch is more than what you see on front and even the back is just about the same as the front. In the best case scenario, most backstitches have twice as much floss used on the back as the front along a straight line. Also, there are multiple ways of doing a backstitch and some take different amounts of floss than others. The "standard" backstitch (as I mentioned above) takes more than the double-running backstitch which is just the same above and below for usage.
Since PCStitch isn't that accurate to begin with in it's estimate of floss needed, I tend to ignore that. From your post, I pulled up an old pattern that's only partly done. It's only backstitches for a border at this point and that is only one corner. The floss usage shows it as needing 23.86 inches of floss but there are NO (zero) stitches! That's not possible but that's what it shows.
In general - take all floss usage estimates with a boulder of salt!
