How do you specify the number of strands for each color of floss. My pattern wants 2 strands of DMC 890 and 1 strand of 898.

I don't think you can in your pattern itself. It just shows the colors and a hatching pattern to indicate blending. You probably have to indicate in the instructions that that blending is done with the number of strands required.

Note - this will make the floss palette usage chart less accurate but it's not that accurate anyway -- at least not that I've seen. I just use it for number of stitches, not amount of floss.
