I import my image. I edit all the things. I click preview and I get a brown screen with a grid on it. What's wrong?

Check the scaling. It may be zoomed in too close to see anything. I remember testing an image of my uncle and all I got was a blur. I changed the scaling to fit or something like that and it worked.
Also, you can turn on preview from the very start and see the changes as they occur.
Also, remember that to get anything close to what you want, your image needs to be simple (not too many colors and a very simple background) and small. Your best conversion comes when your image in pixels is the same as the stitch count of your final pattern.
