I am trying to do a monogram. I would like to place the first name initial and middle name initial on the same line, but place the last name initial in the middle a little higher than the other letters. I am trying to do this with true type letters. My question is, once I place the first initial, how do I keep it in place without it moving or disappearing when I try to place second letter? Do I save it somehow? Thanks in advance.

What you need to do is to create each letter individually. Separate them as needed. Then draw a selection box over each one, right click, and select to make it an object. Then you move each object around until you get the placement you want. You can, then, select to merge the objects into the background to "unobject" them but that's not required.

That should do what you want.
