Is there a way to sort (alphabetically) the contents of a user-created pattern element library to make it easier to find a particular item among similar-appearing ones? In this particular case, I've created a library of circle shapes of varying sizes to make it easier to use them when creating new patterns, and I'd like to be able to sort them by the name of the size as opposed to having them sorted by the order in which I created them.

This one, I can't answer. I've never used this feature. You might look at the files where they are located and rename them to force the order you wish. The other possibility is to create a new library, open each motif in the order desired and save in the new library. Then remove the old library.

That's all I can think of - other than adding it to the wish list that Mark has set up for such things to be requested.

There is no such thing as a stupid question
