I realize I'm a bit older and I'm trying to figure out if purchasing this software will be a benefit to me. I currently am using the "free" version to try it out. I would like to know two things. #1 when I open the program and fill in the grid information, my palette already has symbols and colors of floss (DMC) I believe asigned. Is there a way to have a "blank" palette, so I can assign the symbols to the colors I want? #2 Is there a way to create symbols, like a back slash, dash, etc? Thank you

First, I recommend you go through the tutorial for general information on how the program works.

Yes, there is a default palette. You can create your own "default palette". My default palette has ONE color - DMC black! You can also just ignore those colors and set whatever colors (and symbols you want). If you don't use any color in the default palette, you can use an option to remove unused colors.

Once you save a pattern, the colors you have selected for that pattern show up as the default colors. The basic palette is only used for new patterns.

You can modify the mapping of the symbols to the colors as you wish. Please note that there are at least 3 cases there the symbols are used twice within the list of symbols.

I'm not sure what you're asking with your second question. Why do you want to create your own symbols? Are you referring to the symbols to match the colors or something in the pattern itself?

Not only can you select what floss palette you want (and even use multiple palettes within a single pattern, you can select what symbol set to use, including using standard Windows fonts. The PCStitch fonts are actually fonts defined within Windows.

Good Luck,

Diane
There is no such thing as a stupid question
