Hello!
I am working on a new pattern and I designed a backstitched font that I wanted to use. The spacing looks funny, because the "i" only takes up one line and then has extra space on the right. I have two questions:
1. Is there any way for me to change the width of this so it doesn't add the extra space? The backstitch is along the left gridline, so it doesn't actually take up a whole box, so the extra box for spacing isn't necessary
2. If not, I had planned to just copy pieces of text into a new pattern, but it doesn't seem like I can copy a stitched font. What am I missing?
If this has been covered, I apologize. I did search the forum already!

You're not doing anything wrong. I don't know about the variable width issue but there just doesn't seem to be a way to copy the text from pattern to pattern. If you click on the entire text area you can shift it around but you can't copy it.
I'm sorry. I don't do much with stitched fonts of any kind. I just play around with things when someone has a question in an area where I'm not as familiar and I try to get it to work. This time, I couldn't.

In fact, that may be how you get around the variable width issue. Make and object out of parts of it (several objects) and MOVE them to the desired position and then merge to the background.

That's what I am trying to do, but I can't copy the text. I make the box around it and click "Make Pattern Object" then click copy, but when I paste it, there's nothing in the box. What am I doing wrong? |

I can't answer the question about the width of characters in a stitched font. I don't know if you can make a variable width font.
As for copying it. You should be able to. you might have to mark the lettering (draw a box around it as if for copying) and make it an "object". Then you might be able to copy the object and later "merge to background" to "un-object" it. It might not realize it is a stitched font that way.
In fact, that may be how you get around the variable width issue. Make and object out of parts of it (several objects) and MOVE them to the desired position and then merge to the background.
