I just upgraded to version 11 and have noticed that files saved with 11 no longer have a thumbnail image shown in windows explorer. My version 10 files have a nice thumbnail image so it was easy to find the right pattern when browsing through explorer. This applies to a new file and a version 10 file that was modified and saved in 11. Is there a way to get this back???

Also - I thought maybe I could open my version 11 pattern in 10 and save it, just to get the preview image back. But version 10 won't open any files once it's been saved in version 11 - is this by design? Should I be able to open an 11 file in version 10?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Toni

All I can say is report the issue, with as much information about it as possible to Mark. Check the PCStitch 11 intro thread or his profile for his email.

First, what version of Windows are you running?

Am I correct in guessing that that first image was from the "Open" command from PCStitch 11?

And the second image was from Windows Explorer itself? Were the .pat files listed created from a version of PCStitch earlier than version 11?

As has been noted, the 11 version files don't seem to have the "icons" available anywhere.

There used to be a piece of software from myriaCross called QuickView that would allow you to view cross stitch patterns made from several pieces of software. However, the last I saw of it was old, at most version 9 and maybe only version 8 of PCStitch. I'm not sure it would work now if you could find it. It never did really work with PCStitch right and required you to look at each file individually, not in a group mode as your images show.

Yes, the first was an open command with PC stitch, and the second was Windows explorer. I operate Windows 10.

It doesn't seem consistent with showing previews vs. icons. Some of the old PC Stitch 10 patterns I can view a preview for, some I can't, and same with PC Stitch 11. I've made new PCS11 patterns on the windows 10 laptop, and the PCS10 patterns on an older Windows 7 laptop. There's a random mix of which patterns are showing previews, and which are showing icons, it's not restricted to any one group.

Toni,

All you can do is use the PCStitch contact point and explain the issue as best you can and request it to be addressed.

Correct, Diane. My version 11 files don't have that preview icon available anywhere - from the open in PCStitch or in Windows Explorer.

How do I get this addressed by PCStitch? Is there an official place to request that support look into it?

Thanks!
Toni

I have this issue as well. When I try to open a file in version 11, it shows me small stock icons (http://imgur.com/IRBEJmf).

When I view them through a regular internet explorer, it shows me the actual image previews (http://imgur.com/YGXkTZ8).

Also, when I move the files to a new location, and then move them back to the original folder, PC Stitch will show me some of the previews, but not all (http://imgur.com/hNPH3eV). Unfortunately, even if I repeatedly moved & moved back until all image previews were showing in PC Stitch, the image preview would not last. I know because I have done this several times and after a short interval (I'm unsure exactly how long), the icons always revert back to showing the stock image rather than the image preview.

Thanks for any help/support on this!

That's OK, Toni. I know what you mean. I normally use "Details" for my file listing so I was not aware of that. I did some checking and it appears that that "thumbnail" works for 8, 9, and 10 but not before or after.

That may or may not be a bug. I just don't know.

Hi Diane,

I'm on Windows 7, but this is a standard function of Windows for as long as I can remember - I'm not sure of it's official name - maybe I'm not describing it correctly.

When you are in Explorer, in the upper right there is a dropdown where you can display in list mode, detail mode or icon mode (small, medium or large icons). The icon options all display a thumbnail image of image files, including jpg, png, etc. And the old version of PCStitch files used to display the thumbnail.

I will try to attach a sreenshot image to this thread if I can figure it out.

Thanks!
Toni

Toni, I've never heard of the thumbnail image in windows explorer. What version of windows?

As for the version 11 files being available to open in version 11, that is just not possible. EVERY version of PCStitch has changed the format slightly. Every version accepts all previous versions but no later version can be opened in a previous version of PCStitch. The one exception is that later versions of PCStitch do have an export to version 7 of PCStitch. Will those file have the thumbnail?
