I just noticed that DMC floss colors 3688 and 3803 have the same name: Mauve - md. Which one is correct, and what's the name of the other color?

Ellen,

Everybody has names for the colors and always have had but they are not official. That means that what 123stitch.com has may not be exactly what you see at Michaels or anyplace else. Try to think of DMC colors as numbers. After a while, you see a number (3 or 4 digit) and think to yourself that it's such-and-such color for DMC. I've done that looking at license plates while at a red light.

The shelves of DMC floss at Michael's have color names under each number. If you Google these numbers, they are:

3688 - Medium Mauve
3803 - Dark Mauve

123stitch.com also lists the name of the color with the number listing.

DMC has no "official" names for any of its floss colors. They are just names given by others to try to keep them straight. Therefore, there is not real "correct" in this case. Just use the shade that fits your use best.
