I'm new to PCStitch. In general, the program is very easy to use, and the Help topics take you through things step-by-step. But I can't figure out how to use Paint.

I want to Paint a large rectangular section in my pattern (not the entire pattern). Help only says that Paint works on "the clicked area," but doesn't say exactly what that is. I assumed it had to do with the Selector tool, so boxed in the area I wanted to Paint, made sure I had the right color chosen, and clicked on the paint bucket. Nothing happened, so I clicked on the pattern again, thinking I needed to mark the area *after* choosing Paint. However, as soon as I clicked on the pattern, any square that didn't already have a color assigned, became the Paint color. That's not what I wanted to do. Can you please walk me through this?

Also, after I Paint an area, can I then change any of the squares, or do I need to figure out the shading ahead of time?

That worked perfectly! Thanks so much. (And maybe you could consider elaborating in the Help for the next update?)

You need to enclose the area to be painted with stitches -- full stitches. Fractionals don't always work. Then select the color for the inside and click within the area to be filled. It should work. Make sure you have the paint tool selected.

After that, they are just stitches. You can change each and every one individually as needed or desired.
