Hi, I am trying to use PC Pro 9.0 (never used a software before so please forgive the simple question)... I'm trying to print my 1st pattern & have a couple of questions.

1st question: what's the trick to entering the size when importing a picture (the picture says it's 248 x 450 pixels). I've been working on this for a few days & I am nervous I'm not doing it right & don't want to print the pattern yet.

2nd question: once I do get the pattern right & print it how do I know the size cloth the buy to fit the pattern I just made? The one I'm trying to do says grid size: 206W x 262K design area 11.44" x 14.56", of course that's if I did the size right when importing my picture. (I recently finished a very large pattern I purchased & my fabric was a tiny bit too small & I don't want to waste my time if I the whole pattern won't fit on my cloth).

Thanks for any help!!!!!

Kathy, there are several threads concerning this issue.

The key is for you to decide what size you want your design to be and what count. That gives you the number of stitches (width & height).

Now use Paint, Irfanview or some other graphics program to shrink your original photo to as close to those dimensions as possible in pixels! The best imports do one stitch to one pixel!

Remember that you will have to "tweak" your design afterward. It's never exactly what you want because the computer sees the colors differently that you do. You'll most likely have some confetti stitches to remove, some color changes and even fractionals to add if desired as well as backstitching.

Importing does not add any fractional or special stitches.

Kathy, I just let PCStitch 're-size' my pictures during the import. You can use the "Show Preview" button to see how the pattern will look, based on the size, maximum colors, and the other import options you choose. The size you choose will influence the detail that you get in the pattern (bigger size = more detail) as well as the size of the finished stitch.

Once I get the pattern the way I want, I add 3-4" on each side (i.e. 6-8" overall) to each dimension to allow for framing. For your example, I'd cut the fabric to 18.5" x 21.5".
