First, anytime you download from anything and anywhere, you should never have it open into a product and then save it. You should select save from the download itself. Wait until you KNOW it is on your computer before you try to open it.
If PCStitch Lite is opening instead of Pro, then Lite has "stolen" the .PAT extension. You need to reset it. Right click on a pattern, select Open With and then (with the check to make it the default), traverse the folder tree to the Pro executable and select it. If you just select Pro, it doesn't always get the file icon right.
