Hi! I'm new to this forum, and am interested in converting my paintings to graphs to be used as XS and crocheted graph throws.
I teach art, and we paint simple designs, that could easily be converted to graphs for use as XS or crochet. Many of my students do other crafts along with their painting and I would like to share this with them.
This is a new possibility for my students who XS and more.
Any comments?

The paintings would have to be scanned into the computer to be imported into either Pro or Standard.
Even if Simple, paintings may have a lot of "confetti" stitches that may have to be manually processed after an import but there is no reason this product cannot be used.

Thanks! I'm still toying with this possibility. I've read both tuturials (standard and pro) and I found the pro easier to understand. The pro has lots more tweaking possibilities.
I love painting and really can see this product enabling artists to expand their artistic abilities for other crafts.

Hi Diane! I got the Pro! I know I am going to have fun creating graphs from simple designs. I see what you mean about having many little squares to clean up. The process is fun.

Howdy! I still love my PCS Pro. Besides painting and teaching art, I knit socks for family members. Today, I was thinking that my PCS program can come in very handy for small graphs to add on some of my socks, like a heart, intials, favorite animal, etc.
Another great use for this program!
Hugs, Joan

I hadn't thought about knitting, at least not for socks but any craft that uses symbols in this manner can be used.
I know it's good for needlepoint (especially plastic canvas), latch hooking, and beadwork (at least the straight pattern such as for a loom) besides cross stitch.
You may have to be flexible in how you interpret the colors but its still quite usable for this.
There is a version of PCStitch for plastic canvas (Plastic Canvas Design Studio) which is also by M&R Tech. It's a bit old but it does work and is designed for other color palettes than floss.

Hi Diane! I think that either SDS program can be used for many graph opportunities. Years ago many people XS'ed on clothing, using a tearaway counted XS cloth.
I think that I can do any design, using the 10 count = one stitch of some technique. The program has really got my creative thinking going, even if I am busy painting up my classes.
Worldwide, there are many sock knitters, which gives them creativity for small designs on the "leg" or "foot" part of the sock. There aren't that many personal designs for this type of knitting.

Joan,
That tear-away cloth is called "Waste Canvas". Like any other cross stitch fabric, it comes in various counts (sizes). You just use the standard cross stitch patterns on it. I did a sunflower / crow design using it on a T-Shirt from my MIL several years ago.
