I am new to Pc Stitch and have read a lot of the questions and answers provided here.
I understand that the pixels and stitches need to match as closely as possible.
Now for my question....Everytime I reduce the picture size in ms paint then trasfer it to the pattern I view the pattern and it looks very distorted. Is this normal.
I am still working with making my first pattern into what I want and have not yet went from pattern to finishe product.
When you use Paint to reduce the size of the original photo, you must be sure to reduce the height and width by the same percentage! Otherwise, the aspect ratio of the photo will change and the photo will be distorted (Tall and think or short and squat for example).
The "reduced" photo will be very small. If you look at it from such as Irfanview, it will sometimes look blurry unless you tell that program to "show original". This it will show in the normal size (tiny) in the upper left hand corner of the window). It may appear blurred if you look at it on a full screen because you are actually seeing each pixel represented by several pixels of the actual screen. Don't worry about that.
Just make sure you reduce the height and width by the same percent (don't tell it what height/width you want) until you get both approximately what you want. As long as neither is too big, it should be OK.
Thank you for your reply. Now I have one more question....what programs have you used and which one have you found to work the best for you to resize pictures. I think part of the problem that I may be having is with the pics I am using. At this point I am not using actual photos I am using some of my kids drawings. Thank you again Tina
The only "reducing" I have done is with MS Paint. I have Irfanview (free) but I am not as familiar or comfortable with that. I do not have any other graphics program available. Paint is one that just about everybody has. People tend to forget about it since it comes with Windows but it will do what you want, just maybe not as slick as a fancier package.
