I am having trouble using designs in my library. After I have saved a part of a design to the library and open a new pattern I place that part into my new pattern. It goes in there but it won't let me edit it at all. I can't earse any stitches or take away any backstitching. Can someone help me?

I am also having trouble converting my old library patterns from PCS 7 to Pro 9. It starts working then an error comes up and I have to close it out.

Hello Again,

To answer the first part of your question: That is how the software is designed... You draw on the background and objects such as library pieces are placed on top.

Look at it like this: The background is the graph paper you are drawing on, and the library piece is a post-it note on top that you can move to different places, but not change.... Library pieces can not be changed, only moved to new locations..

Now, this is what the "Merge to Background" option is for. When you merge the object, all the "stuff" that makes up the object is copied to the background. You can now modify those things (Delete stitches, backstitches, or whatever), but you can no longer move the object. Why? It no longer exists.. It is like you took what was on the post-it and drew it on the graph paper. It is there, but the post it is gone...

Objects are collections of stitches that make up a thing. The object can be moved or deleted, but you can not modifiy the stitches inside the object. Once you merge it, you can do anything with the individual pieces but you can no longer move them as one thing...

I hope that clears it up some...

Hello,

This is Troy with M&R. In regards to the conversion of the library from version 7 to version 9, would you please send me an email to triegle@pcstitch.com and attach the library you are having trouble converting? There must be some sort of issue in the file itself, but I will be happy to take a look at it for you...

Sincerely,
Troy

Thank you Diane for your quick responce. The objects I have in my 7 library are small motifs and they do start to convert to my 9 library but never get completed before I receive the erro message. I will keep trying.

I will also try merging into background to see if that works for editing.

Patterns that were in 7 but need to be in 9 should be recognized when 9 opens and it offers to convert them. You may have to open them to complete the conversion later.

I've never had a problem with this and I did ALL 12 of the Pattern Library CDs from 7 to 8. They converted to 9 but didn't make me do the 2nd part of the conversion again.

The library is designed for small motifs - not larger patterns. Larger patterns should be saved as .pat using the save or save as commands.

Most likely, the parts going into the library are saved as "object" and you must merge them into the background before you can edit them.
