I just completed a fairly large project that was almost totally monochromatic. There were small amounts of 2 shades of gray but everything else was all one color.

PCStitch cited the requirement for this main color - using 2 strands on 14 count - as 7.3 skeins of floss. It took me 8.67 skeins. I know that's an estimate but being short by 1 1/3 skeins is a bit much!

Is the problem that it was a large number of stitches and therefore the "wastage" was not estimated high enough? Except for one or two small areas, I used the Loop method and I railroaded almost entirely.

I hope the estimates can be corrected to be more accurate.

I checked what the estimate for 3 strands of floss and that number was given as 10.9 skeins. Cross Stitch Pro gives that number as 13 - more than 2 skeins higher.

Something doesn't fit.

For now - estimate HIGH unless you can see that the number of stitches is small and probably accurate. Go BEYOND what it estimates. Fortunately, I had 15 skeins out available for this project.

Now I need to edge it and then I'm going to frame it in ribbon to make a soft wall hanging.

Hello Diane!
Same with me here. PC Stitch suggests to less floss amount. I have been designing and stitching a sampler in two colors. The design area is 160 x 320 stitches. PC Stitch told me that I have to use round about three skeins for color no. 1 and two for color no. 2. But I'm not ready with stitching yet and have used one more for each color. Is there a possibility to fix that problem?

Greetings Sabine

I always try to overestimate the floss usage estimations as they may be a bit too out of whack even in small project sometimes.
