It would be very helpful if someone would create a DETAILED tutorial on how to use the floss editor. The instructions available are USELESS!!! I want to know that any new lists I make will be saved if my pc crashes or if I have reinstall pcstitch yet again for the zillionth time. I am on another stitchers' internet forum, and there is currently a conversation about floss editor in which EVERYONE is mostly clueless, including the computer savvy ones. There is no point in having a floss editor if no one knows how to use it. I have managed so far, by trial and error, and wasting many hours, to map DMC to hand-dyed fibers silk, but will that disappear too if my pc crashes or if I reinstall pcstitch? I noticed my last two posts were read approximately 70 times in the last month, but no one bothered to answer. It would be nice if someone would actually answer this post.

Thanks, Missy

Missy,

I suggest you go to the folder where you have installed PCStitch. There is a folder there called Flossses. You should be able to find your new map there. Then you can copy it anyplace you want to protect it and back it up.

No, when I create a new mapping there is no opportunity to give the file a name, and I would have no idea where to find it on the pc to back it up. Without knowing the name or the file type, I can't even search for it. I thought this forum was to answer questions on how to use pc stitch. I'm asking how to use the floss editor, and no one seems to have a clue!

However, you give a name when you create a new floss mapping. You should be able to find that file and create a backup of it (on CD, flashdrive or external hard drive). That will save it so that even if your hard drive crashes, you can re-install PCStitch and just put it back.

You should back up your user data (not necessarily your data files) on a routine basis anyway because hard disks do crash occasionally.
