Recently I have developed multiple problems with pcstitch pro. When I try to open the program, I always get a message saying that there was an error converting to pcstitch pro. I don't know what it's converting from, since I'm opening pro to begin with. Then pro opens with no problem, so I've been ignoring it. Then pro developed a habit of not responding so that it takes hours for me to do what should take a few minutes because I have to wait forever for it to respond after each command. Last night, it took 90 seconds just to change a symbol. When I try to convert a file to pdf using both colors and symbols, the file takes anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour to convert, and I end up with symbols for only a few of the colors. I tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling with no luck. When I reinstalled (from the cd) there were no symbols in the symbol panel. I then installed updates, and the symbols reappeared. I also tried doing system restore, with no luck. One other issue that happens sometimes is that when I try to start the program, the computer wants to install "This Old House Digital Designer", and I have to cancel that before pro opens. Windows and aol also frequently don't want to respond - I don't know if that's related or not. Other programs seem to be ok. (I'm using windows xp.)

I would try to reinstall PCStitch Pro. If that doesn't work, send an email with your problem to Mark. There were reports of it working slowly and he was able to help.

I sent my pc to the shop to be cleaned and restored (wiped clean). Yes, I have antivirus software and a firewall (I'm not stupid enough to not have that). The shop said there was no virus. I also upgraded the memory to 1 gb. However, I STILL get the error message when I open pcstitch pro that says "error switching to running instance of pcstitch pro." Then it opens. It still runs as slow as molasses, though my other programs are much faster than they were. I still can't convert to pdf without losing most (not all) of my symbols, and that also takes forever and works only half the time. The rest of the time, pcstitch just doesn't respond. This is driving me crazy!!!!!!!

It sounds like you have a virus. First of all, make sure your DATA (NOT YOUR PROGRAMS) is backed up onto a CD, DVD, flash drive or something else because you may have to restore to factory conditions. Be prepared to re-install EVERYTHING.

If this has only been happening for a few days, then you should try the system restore again and choose a restore point from BEFORE anything funny with any product started occurring.

You should also run a FULL anti-virus scan of your computer.

If you are not running an anti-virus, you more likely will have to do a factory restore (half-jokingly referred to as a "destructive" restore by a friend of mine). If that is the case, as soon as you get your system working again - GET ONE (AVG FREE is just that - FREE from grisoft.com)

If you are not running a firewall - you should be and there is one with XP.

I do not believe your problems are with PCStitch. It is just a symptom. You have a system wide problem.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Diane
