I can rotate designs by 90 degrees. Is there anyway to rotate a design or selected portion by 45 degrees?

Not that I know of.

And if you think of it (take any form and try to rotate it 45 degrees in your head and still keep the grid with 90 degree angles ) as a grid it doesn't sound like a plausible idea.
