I recently noticed that if I double click on a PCStitch Pro pattern file the program opens up but the file doesn't. I can open files once the program is open by using file open. Does anyone have any ideas why double clicking doesn't work?

I haven't heard of this problem specifically, but I will check into it. Are you running Windows Vista? If so is it a 32 or 64 bit version? It might be easier if you emailed me your computer details at mmiller@pcstitch.com.

Did you do an uninstall prior to the re-install? If not, I would try that. I'm out of my depth if that doesn't work. You'll have to get help from Mark at this point.

Do you have this double-click problem on any other product? What happens if you double-click on a .doc or .xsl? Especially, what happens if you double-click on a .exe or .zip? What operating system are you using? That may be part of the problem.

One more question - what level of PCStitch are you running? If not the latest, try to upgrade just to clean things up. The latest is 8.03.08.

I've tried all of the 4 suggestions - I still have the problem. I now also have a new problem after the reinstall.

Now when I try to change an existing symbol on in a pattern to PCStitch Symbol 2 it tell me that I have to use a true type font only. But PCStitch Symbol 2 is a true type font. I can add a new colour and use a PCStitch Symbol 2 but not change an existing symbol to PCStitch Symbol 2.

I have never heard of that problem.

There are several things you can try:

1 - Instead of double-clicking on the data file, try right-click and Open. Does that work? If this works, you may have double-click re-defined to do something else.

2 - Try re-booting your computer and try again. You may have something confused in your system.

3 - Try a system restore. If it has just started withing the past few days, find a restore point that is before the problem was noted (when it was working properly) and restore back to that point. Any other software you have installed or changed since then will have to be redone but data files are not affected.

4 - Try re-installing the program.

If you've gotten to this point and the problem still exists, something is working funny in your computer. It has to be at your end. I have never heard of this problem with any level of PCStitch. At this point, you may need someone to help you with any changes you have made to your system to resolve the problem.

There is a general problem with Vista and zip files. There is a delay if you double-click on a zipped file before the program (any program) opens. If you double-click again before it does open, you will often confuse the system so badly you have to re-boot to get things working again. You learn to use right-click open in zips when using Vista.
