I am new to PCSTITCH and am trying to do a picture of my dog. How do I get the backstitches to show on the screen and also to print?

I am looking for a program to create cross stitch patterns. Before I purchase I would like to know if I can only create a pattern from a library or can I take a picture that I have taken with a camera or found on the internet?

I'll answer the second question first - you can import your own photos and create patterns from them. It's a bit tricky and it does take time. There are several threads already on this board covering the basics. Remember that they do NOT include any fractionals or special stitches including backstitches and French Knots.

Any pattern that has backstitches are visible unless they are the same color as the other stitches or the background. Similarly, they are visible on the printed pattern automatically.

There is no such thing as a stupid question
