Posted - 08/13/2007 : 07:59:16 I recently purchased a birth annoucnement from Patterns On Line. It comes with a sample name on the pattern. How do I remove that name, to get the name I want, into the pattern?

Posted - 08/17/2007 : 12:26:33 The purpose of the "make pattern object" is to make an area that you might use multiple times (as a motif) or you want to move it around as an object many times without having to worry about anything else involved. If you note, you can move a pattern object around and it just overlays the background without moving it as well.
In general, if you are just using objects or just creating and moving things as is, you don't need to worry about it. Unless you are actively using pattern object, the only time you need to worry about it is if you want to change a color and cannot do so. That's when you need to merge it into the background (undo the object definition at that place).
I'm glad you got your colors changed.

Posted - 08/17/2007 : 11:47:49 Thanks, that completely worked. My question NOW is, do I always need to use that "Make Pattern object" function, or only when I come across something that I can't change? I've put many pictures together (drag/drop, etc.) in which that function didn't seem to be needed.

Posted - 08/16/2007 : 10:31:26 Try this,
Right click within any letter of your name. Does that select the entire letter? If so, it is an object and must be merged to be changed. To do that, mark your entire name, right click and select "Merge into Background". If you don't see it, you may have to do it letter by letter.
If it is not a pattern object (your letter is not selected entirely in the first part of this test, then I see NO reason why you cannot change the color.

Posted - 08/16/2007 : 09:04:26 I purchased a PatternOnLine. The letters (of a birth announcement) didn't have the correct name, so I had to take letters from the alphabet placed below the pattern. I created an edit box around each indiv. letter, copied it and pasted letters into the pattern. The letters are only backstitches. Then I tried put an edit box around the new name I created, dragged the desired color over the given color (in the Floss Pallette, "Replaced" and "Selected Area only". I assume that means I've merged the new name to the background of the pattern. If that's not what you mean, I'm lost. agh

Posted - 08/16/2007 : 07:59:06 Sassygurl,
Are the letters backstitched in Red objects of just stitches. You have to merge an object to the background before you can change it. Could that be your problem? That's the only thing I can think of to cause your problem. It works for me.

Posted - 08/16/2007 : 07:48:49 I tried what I believe you suggested, to no avail. There were letters backstitched in red, but I wanted them to be green. So, I took the green color from the Floss Pallette and dragged it over the red color on the Floss Pallette. I saw the tiny cross and released the mouse. Then, I elected the Replace and Selected Area. Nothing changed.
I even tried the scenario of a Distinctive Alphabet, vs. a backstitched alphabet, but, there again, the color didn't change....and it wasn't an alphabet with pre-determined colors (not changable).
Please help.

Posted - 08/14/2007 : 13:08:03 That is exactly what I mean! If the color is not currently in the palette, then use it from the Available Colors panel. Left click on the color desired (either from an existing defined color for the pattern or from the color panel) and hold down the button while you move the mouse to the current color of the letters. You will see a tiny plus sign when you have it where you want it. When you release the mouse, you will get a little menu with one of the options as Replace with an arrow for the sub menu. The sub menu is where you select the entire pattern or just the selected area.

Posted - 08/14/2007 : 10:55:57 What exactly do you mean by drag it over to the old color? The old color (square) in the Color Palette?

Posted - 08/14/2007 : 09:33:16 Try marking an edit box (arrow icon) around the letters and ONLY the letters. Select the new color and drag it to the old color. On the options, select replace in selected area only. That will change the colors within your marked area without affecting anything else. It also will NOT remove the original color/symbol from your palette.

Posted - 08/14/2007 : 07:44:05 I have an additional question. Once I have the new letters (name) on the picture (which I do), how do I go about changing the color of all the letters? I tried many things yesterday, to try and change all the letters from blue to red, and had no luck.

Posted - 08/13/2007 : 08:31:46 Just draw an edit box around the existing name and press the delete key on your keyboard to get rid of the old name.
If there is an alphabet included at the bottom of the pattern, you can draw an edit box around individual letters, and copy and paste them into the original name area to put a new name there.
