I would like to know if it is possible to use PC Stitch Pro to graph a needlepoint pattern that has a section of basketweave or tent stitch? I have tried the backstitch function. That seems to result in a continuous line. I am looking for a line that breaks when the thread should pass through the canvas. |

My designs range from 40 ct to 72 ct or higher, and are stitched on silk gauze, so the plastic canvas software won't work. I need the DMC floss colors, not yarn. What would really be a dream come true, would be if you could include the Eterna silk floss range, since the DMC is too heavy for anything higher than 48 ct. I don't want much, do I? Just as in PCStitch where the pattern is exactly the same whether you are doing 14 count or 40 count (just the resulting size of the stitched design is different), Plastic Canvas needlepoint would also be the same. Any estimates of thread usage may be different but the pattern itself doesn't change.
Remember, Plastic Canvas used to be called "Needlepoint on Plastic" so it is still needlepoint. You just don't have to block it! Plastic canvas comes in 5, 7, 10 and 14 counts so it also is used to adjusting sizes. I don't know about this product, but it is possible that you can tell it the count you are using to get more accurate material numbers as you can with PCStitch.

Thank you for all your answers. I will give the half stitch a try and let you know how that works out.
Mark, I also got a parse error from the link. However the software sounds interesting. I am not working on plastic canvas, it is 18 count mono, but I assume the stitch pattern would be the same. Is that true? |

We have another program for plastic canvas patterns that uses a stitch called a tent stitch. Is that the same thing you are looking for? Take a look at www.plasticcanvassoftware.com.

It would be great if you could add a setting to specify how much of the block the half-cross stitch fills like you can with the backstitch. Tent stitch should completely fill the block, unlike half of a cross stitch. I design needlepoint exclusively, and I can't use virtual stitches or stitches at all if I want a good image.

What you need is the half-stitch. Just decide which direction it goes. As for continental, half-cross or basketweave, it's all still the "tent stitch" and the differences are on the back. The patterns don't show the back so which stitch is intended needs to be handled in the directions.
