When dropping an object onto an existing pattern that covers the whole canvas, how can I make the object's background transparent so just the design shows up and not the white background? I want the whole existing pattern to show up with just the object itself (with no background of its own)on top of the existing pattern. Thanks.

The object must have no background for that to work -- no stitches in the background would make that transparent.
